Are you on Zoom calls all day? Have you been Netflix binging more now? Are all your educational courses on the computer?

As the months go on, many of us find ourselves in front of electronic devices much more than we normally would be.

The incidence of dry eye disease has significantly increased over the past decade. With technology more in the forefront of our daily lives, whether it be work, education, or entertainment, dry eye disease is becoming cause for concern.

Previously, individuals did not have many options to improve their dry eye issues. Now, with new technologies available, you have more options to resolve your discomfort. There are new choices that are effective, easy and painless. The time has come for a safe and effective treatment that is quick and comfortable.

What are some common dry eye concerns?

  • Stinging or burning of eyes
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Eye redness
  • Scratchy sensation in your eyes
  • Mucus in or around your eyes

Our radio frequency (RF) energy-based system is a safe, effective treatment for dry eye disease that offers immediate results with continued improvements over time. Radio frequency works by applying radio waves to your skin which penetrate deeply and warm the tissue, feeling much like a warm face massage! Traditional heat therapy reaches the glands but on a much more superficial level, whereas radio frequency penetrates much deeper, allowing the secretions to break up. A second procedure we introduced to the clinic is IPL. Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is a therapy that penetrates the eyelid tissue, heating it up and reducing inflammation associated with meibomian gland dysfunction, dry eye disease, ocular rosacea, etc. Repeated pulses are administered in each session, with little to no downtime following the treatment. Both Radio Frequency and IPL are most effective with back-to-back sessions every two weeks for maximum results, and typically require four sessions in total. Which one is right for you? The first step is to schedule an ocular surface disease assessment. This is a problem-focused exam that images structures within the eyes, evaluate the tear film, and determines the underlying problem that is causing your dry eye symptoms. Once the doctor completes the evaluation, he or she will develop a treatment plan tailored to your lifestyle and needs.
